The Passo Croce d'Aune is a mountain pass located in the Italian Dolomites. It rises up to 1015m with an average gradient of around 5%.
The Croce d'Aune has a few hairpins but has long ramp sections that contain steadily high gradients. The climb offers beautiful vistas of the spectacular Dolomites. The Croce d'Aune is the finishing summit climb of stage 20 in the Giro d'Italia 2019.
It was on the Croce d'Aune where Tullio Campagnolo had problems with his rear wheel while in a race. As a result of the problems with changing the wheel he lost the race but this led him to go and invent the quick release skewer that most bicycles utilise today. Campagnolo became a company that is known for manufacturing quality cycling components.
