About the Mountain
The Furkapass is one of the iconic climbs in the Swiss Alps. It has been used many times in the Tour of Switzerland. The climb can be tackled beginning at Andermat or Realp. The spectacular views are complemented by the equally impressive road that snakes its way up the mountain with both hairpin turns and longer ramp sections. The area of the Furkapass gives access to many neighbouring iconic Swiss climbs including the Neufenen and St gotthard passes.
The Furkapass has a steady average gradient of around 7.8% with sections going up to 9.5%. The Furkapass was used on stage 6 of the Tour de Suisse race in 2018. Richie Porte powered away at the end of this stage towards the finish in Gommiswald to gain time on his rivals and win the race overall.
The James Bond movie Goldfinger used the Furkapass and the Hotel Belvédère, near the summit, as locations for the movie.
