About the Mountain

The Puerto de Ancares climb is situated in Spain, in the Galician Massif in north-west region of Spain. The climb has been used prior in the Vuelta a Espana . The climb is an HC or as they call it in Spain, Espcial. The climb ascends from Murias with an average gradient of 6.8% and has a maximum gradient of 18%.

The climb was the final ascent of the Vuelta a Epana in 2014 on stage 20. Contador and Froome were out in front of the peloton. Froome attacked but Contador stayed on his wheel. Contador then counter attacked in the final km with a vicious acceleration that Froome could not match. Contador went on the extend his overall lead and win the Vuelta overall in 2014.
