About the Design
In the 2012 season, the Leopard Trek team merged with the Radioshack team, becoming Radioshack Nissan Trek. The 2011 Leopard Trek team kit provided the basis for the new team kit.
The jersey's black shoulder section remained with the sponsors names and logos rendered in white. Touches of red were added to this section by the way of a small red zip flap at the top of the zip and making the top of the sponsors 'O' symbol red. The Mercedes sponsor was replaced with Nissan on the shoulders and on the upper chest, along with Radioshack and Trek.
The two previous white sleeve ends were changed to one white and one yellow. The yellow representing the Livestrong charity.
The mid section of the jersey remained white but across the chest a red stripe was added with the main sponsor Radisohack's name and logo rendered in white on the red stripe above the ice blue stripe that existed in the 2011 Leopard Trek kit.
The bibshorts still predominantly black replaced the ice blue leg ends and stitching with red leg ends and black stitching. The sponsors are still rendered in white on black giving maximum exposure and contrast. The Radioshack name now adornes the side panels of the bibshorts replacing the Leopard name.
The jersey utilised the torso portion to display various nations' flags: German, Suisse, Luxembourg and U.S.A.
This was an interesting design detail used to great affect to incorporate into the design variations based on nationality. A concept that is utilised in the current kits.
The red, light blue, white and black was used to great effect to create a very strong brand identity.
