About the Mountain
The Alto de L'Angliru is located in North Spain in the Asturias. It is one of the hardest climbs on the World tour with it's maximum gradien of 23%. The last 6km contains ramps with an average of 13%. The Cueña les Cabres is the steepest part of the Angliru climb at 23.6% and is located 3km from the summit. The climb is around 12km long.
The Angliru has been used several times in the Vuelta a Espana, Tour of Spain. The first appearance of the climb was in 1999. The stage was won by Pavel Tonkov of the Mapei team.
The Angliru was the summit finish of Stage of gthe Vuleta. The stage was won by Alberto Contador who retired at the end of the season. This was a fitting Grand Tour end to Alberto's career.
