About the Mountain

The Alto de Hazallanas climb is in Andalucia in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The climb begins at Güéjar Sierra and rises up around 890m in 16km. The avarage gradient is 5.4% while the maximum gradient gets up to a leg shattering 19%.

The Alto de Hazallanas climb was used on stage 10 of the 2013 Vuleta a Espana race. Chris Horner of the Radioshack Leopard team attacked on the Alto de Hazallanas climb around 4.5km from the summit. Horner was chased by a group of riders including Vincenzo Nibali, Ivan Basso and Thibaut Pinot but managed to keep his pace and stayed away to win the stage. This set the groundwork for Horner to win the Vuelta overall.
