The Col d'Izoard is a Tour de France icon. The Izoard was first used in the Tour de France in 1922 and has since been used on multiple occasions in the Tour de France, Critérium du Dauphine and the Giro d'Italia races.
For the 2018 Tour de France, stage 18, the Col d'Izoard was used in the race as a summit finish for the first time. On that day the stage was rather fittingly won by Frenchman, Warren Barguil.
A small cycling museum can be found at the summit as well as a memorial to former cyclists, Fausto Coppi and Louison Bobet.
The Col d'Izoard can also be ascended from Briançon.
