The 2019 edition of the Tour de France marks the 100th anniversary of the yellow jersey. To mark this event, the General Classification leader at the end of each stage will be presented with a unique yellow jersey. Each yellow jersey will have a unique watermarked image on it representing either race stages, race landmarks or previous Tour de France champions. The yellow jerseys will be supplied and manufactured by Le Coq Sportif.
The first yellow jersey was worn by rider Eugène Christophe in 1919. Eugène Christophe was leading in the Tour de France but his forks broke on a descent. Isolated on the mountain descent, he walked and carried his bike. He was directed to a nearby village blacksmith. He repaired his forks and continued but was penalised as someone else operated the bellows when he re-welded his forks.
