About the Mountain

The Foza climb is located in the Dolomites in Italy. The Foza climb begins in Valstagna. The Foza has an average gradient of 6.5% over the 14km climb. The Foza has many haipin switchbacks similar in many ways to L'Alpe d'Huez for around the first 8.5km. After this mark the climb reverts to longer straighter ramps that weave up the mountain.

The Foza climb was introduced in the Giro d'Italia for the first time on stage 20 in 2017. This was the 100th edition of the Giro d'Italia.

Quintana, in pink after taking the jersey from Dumoulin, attacked with Niballi and Pinot. The trio tried to ride away from Dumoulin but Dumoulin managed to minimise the gaps and hang on. Quintana did not manage to gain enough time for the time trial, the final stage, stage 21. Dumoulin clawed back the deficit to Quintana on the time trial and managed to add time to retake the pink jersey and win the 2017 Giro d'Italia
