About the Mountain
The Puerto de Cotos is in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range in Spain. The climb is around 11km in length with an average gradient of around 5.5% and a maximum gradient of around 8%. The mountain road winds its way up the mountain through large beautiful wooded areas.
The climb is not too far from Madrid and can easily be accessed by car from Madrid airport.
The Puerto de Cotos was used on stage 20 of the Vuelta a Espana in 2015. On the latter part of the stage Team Astana came to the front to drive the pace and attack Dumoulin. Dumoulin fell back losing time. Dumoulin lost around 4 minutes on the final ascent of the day, the Puerto de Cortos. Fabio Aru who went on to win the Vuelta overall.
