About the Mountain

The Pico de Veleta climb is an HC climb, reaching over 3300m located in the Sierra Nevada mountains in the Andalucia region of Spain.

The climb starts from the city of Granada and rises up via the A395 towards the Pico de Valeta summit. Closer to the summit the asphalt road surface gives way to gravel roads.

The climb has steep sections but also provides the secondary challenge by way of the distance of 43km. The Pico de Veleta climb is the highest road in Europe.

The Pico de Veleta climb has been used in the Vuelta a Espania grand tour race. In 2009 the stage was won by Frenchman David Moncoutié. The stage with pico de veleta was won by Miguel Ángel López in 2017
