About the Mountain
The Cortals d'Encamp climb is located in the Andorra Pyrenees. The Cortals d'Encamp is relatively short at around the 8km mark. The lower 5km of the climb includes steep ramps of 10% up to 14% that wind their way through scatterings of buildings. The buildings eventually give way to trees in the second part of the climb. All the way up the climb there are beautiful views back down to Encamp and of the surrounding peaks coming into view between the trees.
The top of the climb has some sections of beautiful ramps that are complemented by equally beautiful hairpin corners. The Cortals d'Encamp summit is located at around 2000m so the elevation becomes a factor as the air becomes thinner while being paired up with the steep gradients.
The Cortals d'Encamp was used as a summit finish in the 2019 Vuelta stage 9. The stage was won by Tadej Pogacar of UAE TEam Emirates.
The Cortals d'Encamp was also used as a summit finish in stage 11 of the 2015 Vuelta a España. It was won by Mikel Landa, riding for Team Astana, who broke away to win the stage.
The Arcalis climb is not too far from the Cortals d'Encamp so this iconic climb can also be attempted as it is in the same area of Andorra.
