About the Climb
The climb of Grosmont rises from the railway station and rises up Front St. The Cote de Grosmont has been used in the Tour of Yorkshire race which is also owned by A.S.O., owners of the Tour de France, hence the French reference.
The climb is only short in distance, 0.5km but has a real gradient sting awaiting riders, with gradients above 16% in places.
The scenery in the area is lush and green so cycling in this environment is very special. Even although the climb is short, there are lots of picturesque routes and villages to enjoy.
There is the Railway Tavern in Grosmont at the foot of the climb but we would recommend doing the climb first then have the celebratory drink(s) aftwerwards ;)
While in the vacinity it is worth also tackling the Buttertubs Pass climb located in the nearby Yorkshire Dales area. Buttertubs Pass has been used in the Tour of Yorkshire and it was also be used in the UCI Road World Championships 2019. Buttertubs pass is about a 2hour, 78mile drive from Grosmont.
