La Rosière is a ski station located in Savoie department in the South East of France. The La Rosière climb starts in Seez and winds its way all the way up to the ski station located at 1855m.
The first and last 6km of the La Rosière climb contain gradients varying around 4 and 5%. The middle 6km of the climb are where the gradients really kick up to just over 9%.
In the 2018 Tour de France the climb was used for the first time on stage 11, Albertville to La Rosière on 18th july 2018. Gerraint Thomas attacked on La Rosière and manage to gap his closest rivals, including Chris Froome. Gerraint Thomas pushed on to not only win the stage but to also take the yellow jersey, which he kept until the Champs-Élysées in Paris to win the Tour.
La Rosière can be reached by air from Chambery airport and by rail from Bourg Saint Maurice.
