About the Mountain
The Risoul climb starts near Guillestre and snakes its way up to the ski resort in Risoul. This climb is in the vacinity of other climbs such as the Col d'Izoard, Sestriere, Col du Lauteret and the Col du Galibier.
The climb to Risoul is around 14km with an average gradient of 6% and a maximum gradient of 11%.
The climb has been used many times in both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. The climb to Risoul was used as the summit finish on stage 19 of the 2016 Giro d'Italia. Vincenzo Niballi attacked with around 9.2km to go to the finish and gapped 2nd place Esteban Chaves. Chaves managed to hang on and came back. Niballi attacked again at 5km and this time managed to gap Chaves and stayed away to win the stage. Niballi went on to win the Giro d'Italia in 2016.
